Light
activated adhesive
Gives you flexibility of unlimited working time and prior application
of adhesive to brackets which can be stored in a dark place and used
whenever required.
Tooth Preparation:
Clean: Thoroughly clean teeth to be bonded with plain pumice.
Prophy paste, which contains oil or fluoride, should not be used. They
can leave a residue which may inhibit the etch. Rinse teeth completely
with a large amount of water. Dry with oil/moisture free compressed
air.
Etch: Apply etchant on the entire area to be bonded
using a mini sponge or brush. Do not rub the etchant on to the enamel.
Etching should be complete in 30 seconds. Allow 120 seconds for
deciduous teeth. Make sure to avoid placing etchant on soft tissue.
Rinse and Dry: Rinse thoroughly with water to remove
all traces of etchant. Do not allow the patient to rinse or
contaminate the etched surface. Re- isolate and dry completely using
oil/moisture free compressed air. The conditioned area should appear
dull and frosty white. If not, re-etch for an additional 20 seconds.
Application of bonding / sealant resin
Dispense one or two drops of the light cure bonding / sealant resin on
to a mixing pad. Apply a thin layer of the resin on the etched enamel
surface. The bonding / sealant resin may be cured for 10 seconds per
tooth at this time to minimise bracket flotation. Saliva contamination
can be clean by dabbing the cured bonding resin with alcohol. The bond
can be further strengthened by painting a thin coat of bonding sealant
resin on to the mesh pad of the metal bracket and curing for 10
seconds before applying the paste.
Application of paste
Apply the paste using the light cure syringe tip or a spatula and
working it into the bracket base position the bracket on to the tooth
and press lightly, taking care not to exert access pressure so that
all paste does not exude from under the bracket. If a metal bracket is
being used, shine the curing light from the gingival and incisal edges
and cure for a minimum of 15 seconds each. Curing may be done directly
through a ceramic bracket for 20 seconds. An arch wire can be placed
immediately once the paste has been properly cured.
Bracket Removal
To remove a bracket use a debonding plier or a ligature cutter and
grab the adhesive at the enamel / adhesive interface and separate from
the tooth surface. Any remaining adhesive can be removed with slow
speed carbide burs or a scaler.
